    TL;DR

How do I build an astrology app?

Describe the app to Fastshot. It builds birth-details onboarding, a daily horoscope for each sign, a chart screen and a compatibility check in about 5 to 7 minutes. Horoscope text is written by AI through Fastshot's AI gateway and saved in your database. Daily reminders and a premium subscription are part of the build.

Who Builds an Astrology App, and What It Has to Do

Working astrologers, tarot readers, wellness creators and solo founders build astrology apps. The astrologer already writes readings by hand and wants clients to carry them in a pocket. The founder sees a daily habit product, since people open a horoscope the way they open a weather app. Both need the same three things: a profile that captures a birth date, time and place, a daily piece of content that feels personal, and a reason to come back tomorrow.

Astrology apps split into content and calculation. Content is the horoscope, the compatibility note and the monthly forecast. Fastshot generates that text with AI, in your tone, and the app stores each day's text so it is written once and read by everyone born under that sign. Calculation is where planets stood at a birth moment. A sun sign needs only a lookup of the birth date against the date ranges of the twelve signs. Planet positions for a full chart need an astronomy library.

You choose the calculation source for exact positions. Astronomy Engine is an open-source library, under the MIT licence, that calculates positions of the Sun, Moon and planets. The Swiss Ephemeris is offered under either the AGPL or a Swiss Ephemeris Professional License, and you must pick one before you distribute software that includes it. The app saves the results in a birth_charts table.

Habit makes the business. A daily notification at the user's chosen hour brings people back, and a subscription unlocks the deeper readings. Fastshot sets up subscriptions with Adapty by default, or RevenueCat if you prefer it.

The Screens an Astrology App Needs

These are the screens that carry the daily habit.

    Birth details onboarding

Three quick steps: birth date, birth time (with an "I do not know" option) and birth place. The app derives the sun sign right away and stores the time zone with the place.

    Today

The daily horoscope for the user's sign, with a short headline, three area scores (love, work, energy) and the lucky number. The text comes from the daily_horoscopes table.

    Birth chart

A chart wheel drawn from the planet positions saved for this user, with a list of planets by sign and a plain-language line for each placement.

    Compatibility

Pick two signs or two saved people and get a score and a written reading for love, friendship and work. Readings are cached by sign pair.

    Weekly and monthly outlook

A calendar view for the month with the new and full moon dates marked, and a longer written forecast for the week.

    Ask the astrologer

A chat screen where the AI answers in your voice using the user's sign and chart as context. The conversation is saved so it can continue tomorrow.

    Journal

A private note per day, tagged with the sign and moon phase, so users can look back at how a transit felt.

    Premium paywall

Shows what unlocks: the full chart, long compatibility readings and unlimited questions. Handled by Adapty subscriptions.

The Supabase Tables Behind an Astrology App

Reference data, cached AI text and each person's birth data live in separate tables.

A Ready-to-Paste Prompt for an Astrology App

Change the name and voice to match your brand.

Build an astrology app called Lunara for iOS and Android. Dark indigo background, soft gold accents, thin star line art, a calm voice.

Onboarding: ask birth date, birth time (allow "I do not know") and birth place. Work out the sun sign from the date using the twelve sign date ranges and save it.
Tabs: Today, Chart, Match, Journal, Profile.
    - Today: daily horoscope for the user's sign with a headline, love/work/energy scores out of 5, and a lucky number. Generate the text with AI in a warm, grounded tone of 120 words. Save one row per sign per day in daily_horoscopes, and when the row for today exists read it instead of generating again.
    - Chart: a wheel and a list of planets by sign, calculated from the birth data with an open-source astronomy library and saved in birth_charts.
    - Match: choose two signs and show a score plus short love, friendship and work readings. Cache them by sign pair.
    - Journal: one private note per day with the moon phase tagged automatically.
    - Ask: chat with an AI astrologer that knows the user's sign and chart; keep history.

Reminders: a local daily notification at the hour the user picks, saying their horoscope is ready.
Premium: Adapty paywall. Free users get Today and Match for their own sign. Premium unlocks the full chart, long readings and unlimited Ask.
Backend: Supabase tables zodiac_signs, profiles, daily_horoscopes, birth_charts, compatibility_readings, chat_messages, journal_entries. Sign in with Apple, Google or email.

How to Build an Astrology App Step by Step

    1

Decide how deep the astrology goes

A sun-sign horoscope app needs no calculation at all, only the date lookup. A birth chart app needs planet positions. Say which one you want in the first message, and name the library if you have a preference.

    2

Set the voice before the content

Write two sample horoscopes in your tone and paste them into the prompt as the style example. Fastshot passes your style to the AI that writes each day's text, so the app sounds like you and not like a generic horoscope site.

    3

Check onboarding and the Today screen in the preview

Enter a birth date of March 3 and confirm the app shows Pisces. Open Today twice. The second open should read the saved row and show identical text, which shows that the daily cache works.

    4

Connect Supabase so readings are shared

Accept the backend connection. Profiles, charts, the cached horoscopes and the journal now persist across devices, and users sign in with Apple, Google or email.

    5

    Add the daily reminder

The reminder is scheduled on the phone itself at the hour each user picks, so it needs no server. Test it by setting the hour two minutes ahead on the Expo Go build on your phone. Use push notifications from outside the app for announcements like a new moon ritual.

    6

    Add the paywall and publish

Turn on Adapty, set which screens are premium, and publish with your Apple Developer account ($99 a year) and Google Play account ($25 one-time). TestFlight lets friends try the subscription flow before launch.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Can AI write the horoscopes?

Yes. Generated apps can call Fastshot's AI gateway for text. The prompt gives it the sign, the date and your style sample, and the result is saved in daily_horoscopes. One generation per sign per day serves every reader of that sign.

Where does the planet data come from?

From a calculation library that you choose. Astronomy Engine is MIT licensed and computes positions of the Sun, Moon and planets. The Swiss Ephemeris is dual licensed under AGPL or a professional licence. The app stores each person's results in birth_charts.

How do I find a user's sun sign?

Compare the birth month and day with the twelve start and end dates in the zodiac_signs table. Sign boundaries fall between the 18th and 23rd of a month and move by a day from year to year. People born near a boundary can use the chart screen to get a precise answer.

Can I charge for premium readings?

Yes. Fastshot sets up Adapty subscriptions and paywalls by default, and RevenueCat is an option. You pick which screens sit behind the paywall. Our guide to subscription apps covers trials and plan layout.

How do I get people to open the app daily?

Schedule a local reminder at the hour each user chooses. Local reminders run on the phone itself, so they work without a backend. Pair that with a streak counter in the journal.

Can I have the horoscopes in another language?

Yes. The daily_horoscopes table has a language column in its unique key, so the same sign and date can hold an English row and a Spanish row. The app picks the row that matches the phone's language.

Do I need to build a separate Android and iPhone version?

No. Fastshot builds one React Native and Expo project that runs on both. You get an APK and AAB for Android and an IPA for iOS from the same code, and you own the source.
