How to make an app with AI: your first Fastshot app
Written by the Fastshot team from the Fastshot user guides. Updated .
To make an app with AI in Fastshot, you describe it in plain language, approve the plan, and wait about 5 to 7 minutes for the first version. You get a live preview of a real iOS and Android app that you can open on your phone and refine with follow-up messages. No coding is needed.
Start building your appFastshot builds an app from a written description. You do not write code: you say what the app should do, and you refine it with follow-up messages.
1. Open the editor
Visit fastshot.ai and open the editor. Sign up or log in when you are asked to.
2. Choose a platform
When the New Project screen offers it, pick iOS + Android to build one React Native app for both, or Native Android for an Android-only app written in Kotlin.
3. Describe your app
Say what the app does, who it is for, its core features and the look you want. For example: “A fitness tracking app for gym-goers that logs workouts, tracks progress with charts, and has a dark theme with blue accents.”
4. Answer questions and review the plan
Fastshot may ask one or two clarifying questions, then writes a development plan: the architecture, the screens and the features.
5. Wait for the first build
Code generation typically takes 5 to 7 minutes for the first version. A live preview appears in the right panel when it is ready.
6. Try it on a phone
Use Preview on Device to open the app on your phone. Native features such as biometrics or NFC need an installed build, and on an iPhone Quick preview opens the web preview.
7. Keep refining
Send follow-up messages to change the design, add features or fix issues. Each follow-up is a targeted code update, not a full rebuild.
Good to know
- Upload a screenshot or design mockup as a reference image for visual guidance.
- Paste a website URL and Fastshot uses its design and content as inspiration.
- Add a moodboard image to set the overall look and feel.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I make an app with AI?
- Open the Fastshot editor, describe your app in plain language (what it does, who it is for, its features and look), answer one or two questions, review the plan and wait. The first version typically takes 5 to 7 minutes and appears as a live preview.
- Can I make an app without coding?
- Yes. You say what the app should do and refine it with follow-up messages; you do not write code. Each follow-up is a targeted code update, not a full rebuild.
- Can AI make an app for me?
- Yes. Fastshot writes a development plan (architecture, screens and features) from your description, then generates the app. You get a live preview in about 5 to 7 minutes and can change it by sending follow-up messages.
- How long does it take to make an app with AI?
- Typically 5 to 7 minutes for the first version of a Fastshot app. After that, each follow-up message is a targeted code update, so small changes do not mean a full rebuild.
- Will I get a real iPhone and Android app?
- Choose iOS + Android to build one React Native app for both, or Native Android for an Android-only app written in Kotlin. An iOS + Android project produces a single Expo React Native app written in TypeScript.
- Can I try the app on my phone?
- Yes, with Preview on Device. Native features such as biometrics or NFC need an installed build, and on an iPhone Quick preview opens the web preview.
- What should I put in my first prompt?
- Say what the app does, who it is for, its core features and the look you want. For example: a fitness app for gym-goers that logs workouts, tracks progress with charts and has a dark theme with blue accents.
- Can I start from a screenshot or a website?
- Yes. Upload a screenshot or design mockup as a reference image, paste a website URL to use its design and content as inspiration, or add a moodboard image to set the overall look and feel.
